When I first moved to Birmingham from Georgia, the hit “Move” by Ludacris was big. The lyrics are about Atlanta traffic on Interstate 20, but I soon learned the tune is perfectly appropriate for Highway 280 in the Greater Birmingham area. Hoover mayor Frank Brocato wants to change that, and he thinks a rapid transit system is the answer.

Freshwater Land Trust ‘Too Hot to Hike’ tour explored three trails last Saturday, including the High Ore Line Trail

Has there ever been a more appropriately named fundraising event than this past Saturday’s Freshwater Land Trust Too Hot to Hike: A Beer and Bus Tour of the Red Rock Trail? With temps in the low 90s and stifling humidity, the air conditioning and beer on the bus made for a pleasant afternoon that was educational and fun.

UAB professor and explorer James McClintock recognized globally for efforts in Antarctica

According to the UAB Reporter, UAB professor James McClintock has been named the inaugural recipient of the 2018 SCAR Medal for Education and Communication. Awarded by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), the honor recognizes McClintock’s decades-long educational efforts emphasizing Antarctic climate change and impacts on marine biology.

Whistling Table in Forest Park is OPEN for breakfast and lunch!

The closing of the beloved V. Richard’s gourmet grocery in Forest Park’s tiny downtown left a hole on Clairmont Ave. for several years.  With bated breath, locals have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Whistling Table. That day is here.  Whistling Table, owned by Mac Russell, is now open and serving breakfast and lunch.
